WHO WE ARE
The South African Ballistic Organisation (SABO) was formed in 1993, with the main purpose to further the science of ballistics in general, and to bring together all the people in the field of ballistics or related fields of technologies to exchange information. Secondly it was formed to create one organisation that could communicate with the international ballistic community at large, but more specifically, with the International Ballistic Committee. At that stage, South Africa planned to host the International Ballistic Symposium (IBS) in South Africa. SABO became the coordinating organisation between all the South African companies involved in ballistics and represented South Africa internationally.
SABO then obtained the opportunity to host the 17
th IBS which took place in 1998 in Midrand. SABO has encouraged members to participate internationally and has a support system available to assist members to submit journal papers and/or presentations on the international stage.
To promote cooperation, communication, and exchange of information between the different ballisticians, SABO has the responsibility to organise local symposia and workgroups regularly. The first symposium was held in 1994 and after that regularly every second year. SABO has aimed to invite one or more international presenters at these symposia.
